Change Your Life for Just £1 a Day
The key to a rich and fulfilling life is very simple. It’s learning to live in the present. This moment is the only reality we have. The past is over and the future is yet to happen.
This is an old message, recently popularised in Eckhart Tolle’s book ‘The Power of Now’. Published in 2004, the book topped the New York Times book list and has since been translated into over 30 languages.
But it is one thing to read about the power of now.
It is quite another thing to actually practice it.
Wake up and live!
Many of Eckhart Tolle’s ideas are derived from Zen.
The word Zen literally means meditation in Japanese.
There are two main sects of Zen in Japan – the Rinzai and Soto schools.
An old saying goes: “Rinzai for the warriors, Soto for the peasants”.
Rinzai Zen was the form of Zen practiced by the samurai.
It enabled them to become fearless in battle.
You too can harness this power.
Practicising Zen is no mean feat.
It requires commitment and discipline.
But the practice can completely transform your life.
Zen enables you to express yourself with authenticity.
It allows you to immerse yourself in activities.
It can liberate you from suffering.
And it can enable you to experience more joy and happiness into your life.
At the heart of Rinzai Zen practice, is Zazen, or sitting meditation.
Zazen is well known in the West, but hasn’t been fully taught.
There are in fact many Zen practices. Daizan Roshi has made it his mission to make the full range of these practices available in the west.
A unique DVD-based course
Now, for the very first time, these forms of meditation have been recorded in a unique set of DVDs.
The DVDs have been produced by Julian Daizan Skinner Roshi, the first Englishman to go to Japan and become a full Zen master in the Rinzai school.
Eighteen years ago, Daizan Roshi gave up a promising career as a scientist in the pharmaceuticals industry, sold his house, gave all the money away and entered a Zen monastery. Over many years of strict training, in Japan and the west, Daizan Roshi recieved Dharma Transmission in both the Rinzai and Soto lineages of Zen. His long residence in Zen monasteries opened many doors to inner secrets of Zen practice and experience.
A powerfully motivational personality, Daizan Roshi sees his mission as that of making the wonderful teachings he has received available in an experiential, non-dogmatic way.
Zen practices
The practices in the course fall into two categories. One type of meditation allows you to enhance your wellbeing and vitality. To live an active fulfilling life, you need a robust, healthy body. The second sort of meditation is directed towards understanding reality – kensho or satori – as enlightenment is called in Zen.

All Proceeds Going to New Temple Fund
Daizan Roshi says, ‘Just recently, a friend of mine, a simple and uneducated Japanese carpenter, was sitting in zazen when a tidal wave of gratitude and joy burst through him and he lost all his old concerns and limitations. From my own experience I can’t begin to tell you how often I get up from the zazen cushion with my whole being renewed and dancing with joy, back in my true place, connected with all things.’
